Founding Partner and Founding Champions
The idea for a collective WILD Cities campaign emerged from WILD10 (World Wilderness Congress, Spain, 2013). The coordinator of the Congress, WILD Foundation, founded the project and remains involved as the Founding Partner. The partnership with WILD Foundation grounds the urban project in a global vision to connect wilderness, wildlife and people.
Many of the Founding Partners were present at WILD10 in Spain. Over the ensuing 18 months, those Founding Champions and other close collaborators identified priorities and contributed to the drafting of the WILD Cities Declaration. The Founding Champions continue to lead by example through their work and advise the campaign.
WILD Foundation – Founding Partner
WILD Foundation protects wilderness while meeting the needs of human communities, working across cultures and boundaries by collaborating with local peoples, organizations, the private sector, and governments to create dynamic practical projects and inspiring solutions.
Nature Needs Half Vision
The Nature Needs Half vision ensures that enough wild land and seascapes are protected and interconnected (scientifically estimated to be at least half of any given ecoregion) to maintain nature’s life-supporting systems and the diversity of life on Earth. The “half” also suggests a planet that is respectfully shared in a balanced relationship where the needs of all living things are considered and protected equally.
